Laphonza Butler will be Congress’s first-ever Black out lesbian senator after California Gov. Gavin Newsom named her to fill Dianne Feinstein’s Senate Seat, left vacant by her death.
“I’m honored to accept Gov. @GavinNewsom’s nomination to be U.S. Senator for a state I have made my home and honored by his trust in me to serve the people of California and this great nation,” Butler said in a statement posted on X.
2. Updated breast cancer screening guidelines: what you need to Know
October is Breast cancer awareness month. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recently recommended that women begin getting mammograms at 40 years old instead of 50 in order to detect breast cancer.
Beginning next year, the FDA will be requiring all health providers to inform women of their breast densities in their mammogram results.
