1. Americans released from Iran land in the U.S.

The Americans detained in Iran returned home on Tuesday and greeted their families with tears. Five Americans were released as part of a deal negotiated by Joe Biden. The agreement unfroze almost $6 billion worth of Iranian assets for the safe return of the five.

Three of those who were part of the deal — Emad Shargi, Morad Tahbaz, and Siamak Namazi — had all been imprisoned for more than five years. Namazi was detained in 2015.

Biden announced in a press release that five innocent Americans, who had been imprisoned for years in Iran, were finally being released. He warned that “Americans with passports should not travel” into the country due to “the risk of kidnapping or arbitrary arrest.”

2. Fed to likely pause rate increases in September

Stock markets remain muted ahead of the Fed’s September FOMC meeting, scheduled for Sept. 19 and 20.
