Mike Johnson is the MAGA Republican elected House Speaker.
Mike Johnson was elected speaker of the House of Representatives. Johnson is a Republican who has a record of being anti-LGBTQ+ and antiabortion. The Louisiana Republican voted against numerous pro-equality measures, including the Equality Act.
Johnson was also the conservative representative that filed an amicus curiae brief at the Supreme Court of the United States in 2020, to overturn the victory of President Joe Biden in Pennsylvania, Georgia Wisconsin and Michigan. Johnson was one of the 125 Republicans to sign onto the filing despite not having enough evidence to support their claims of widespread fraud.
2. U.S. calls on “humanitarian breaks” in Israel-Hamas Conflict
The Biden administration is calling for a “humanitarian break” between Israel and Hamas to allow aid to be delivered to Palestinian civilians living in Gaza. Since Israel’s retaliatory strikes began, over 7,000 Palestinians civilians have died.
