Tantra, an ancient Hindu tradition that promotes intimacy, is a practice of promoting spirituality. Carrellas describes Tantra as a “spiritually focused practice which is sexpositive.”

Tantric sex does not focus on achieving a particular goal, such as an orgasm. It focuses instead on setting intentions and focusing on connections. Carrellas’ framework – which she calls Urban Tantra – can be an effective way to “set the intention of releasing shame” and even improve behavior outside the bedroom.
