Justice Patricia Thompson Lee, the first African American woman on the Nevada Supreme Court, was the only black woman in the firm.
It is an important milestone to which young women should aspire. Justice Lee acknowledges the importance of her appointment and shares that it was both “humbling”, “overwhelming”. The fact that there are so many firsts, she adds, is “a little disconcerting.”
“I know this appointment is much bigger than I am,” she told Sonia Baghdady. Advocate Now. “I am thrilled to have had this opportunity, after Michael Douglas – our first African American male Supreme Court Justice – opened and held the door for me. I will do the same thing for my successors. … I don’t take it lightly. “I hope I can be worthy of this position.”
