1. Blinken visits Israeli, Palestinian leaders

U.S. Secretary Antony Blinken, who visited Israel after the devastating Hamas attacks on the weekend. He told Benjamin Netanyahu that, “as far as America is concerned, we will be at your side.”

He warned that civilians should not be hurt in the retaliation against Hamas. “It is so important to avoid harming innocent civilians.”

Blinken met Mahmoud Abubas, President of the Palestinian Authority in Amman in Jordan’s capital. The Palestinian Authority controls a portion of the West Bank, and is a fierce opponent to Hamas which governs the Gaza Strip.

Abbas, who is 87 years old, has led the Palestinian Authority since 18 years. The inability of the Palestinian Authority to hold elections led to an extension of his initial four-year tenure.
