Simnowitz’s new book is heartbreakingly honest The Gay Conversion Therapy Fail: I Learned how to Love myself by Letting go(d). Details his journey of coming to terms his sexuality as a child growing up in a Christian family. The author reveals that he has spent more than three decades trying to accept his sexuality.

When you’re raised in the church it’s there. “You believe that smoking, drinking, and being homosexual are all wrong,” he told Sonia Baghdady, Advocate Now. I don’t remember being told that. “It’s part of the culture.”

Aaron Simnowitz on Letting Go of Fear & Embracing His Sexuality

Simnowitz said he first became aware of his attraction to men at the age of 18. He spent the next 15 years in conversion therapy centers in an attempt to “pray the gay away.”

“I never thought it was okay. That’s why I pursued it.” “It was never going be okay for me.” Simnowitz says.

Simnowitz describes a sermon given by a lesbian minister as “a turning point in my view of the Bible in a different way”.
