Play ball! A League of Their Own is returning to the screen in a whole new way…and we’ve got the newly released trailer to prove it!
The beloved 1992 film — which starred Geena Davis, Lori Petty, Rosie O’Donnell, Tom Hanks and Madonna — has been rebooted and revamped into the highly anticipated Amazon Prime series of the same name.
Created by Broad City’s Abbi Jacobson and Will Graham, the eight-episode series stars Jacobson herself in addition to Roberta Colindrez, D’Arcy Carden, Kate Berlant, Nick Offerman, and O’Donnell (in a role that has not been disclosed yet).
The series will be similar to the movie. It will follow the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. This league was formed in the middle of the 1940s, while the men were still fighting in World War II. It was groundbreaking for its day, with 650 women playing baseball for the love and freedom of the game. This time, the spotlight shines on queer players as well, highlighting stories that were not included in the Penny Marshall film.
According to Maybelle, an ex-player, it is ironic that the majority of women in this league were queer.
